Skin Cleansing - do you need to double & triple cleanse?
Skin cleansing is the most overlooked weapon in the battle for happy/radiant skin. Not cleansing the skin well enough is one of the most common skincare mistakes. A cleanser should act as a primer for the next application of your layering routine.
A good skin cleanser should perform two primary but vital functions:
It should be effective on all types of make-up; from long wear heavy pigmented foundation to waterproof eye make-up.
The formulation must keep the skin calm and balanced. It must not be reactive or sensitizing to intolerant skin.
It is estimated that over 50% of users of cleansers, suffer from skin discomfort, tingling or itching.
Our formulation chemist Bruce Green says ‘In my opinion, many cleansers on the market contain too much ethanol and an excess of surfactants that can upset and unbalance the skins natural protective barrier, its ‘Acid Mantle’ – which can lead to redness, irritation, clogged pores and the skin feeling tight and the skins barrier being compromised.’
What skincare routine does Bruce recommend?
The most important step is a good cleanser. Cleanse first with a mild soap-free, neutral pH and alcohol-free cleanser. Rinse or wipe off but ensure you pat dry carefully. We would recommend SOS Cleanse as your go to cleanser for healthy looking skin: alcohol-free & petrochemical free.
A warning, do not over cleanse or use an aggressive cleanser as this can stimulate the skin to produce more sebum and the need to cleanse more.
SOS CLEANSE is packed in a pharmaceutical environment using a content protective airless pump.
A soft, almost translucent gel/cream with the same ‘Melt Flow Index’ as the skin which ensures gentle but thorough cleansing, without the use of alcohol, acids or aggressive surface-active agents.
Formulated to calm, instantly soothe and cool the epidermis. It leaves the skin’s protective barrier ready for the daily onslaught of environmental pollutants and at times, somewhat aggressive colour cosmetics.
Layering steps:
Cleanse, Moisturise & SPF - Either combination moisturiser (SOS H20 Day Cream with SPF 30) or standalone SPF (SOS SPF 50 Sun Cream).
Follow this routine morning and evening.
In Bruce’s opinion, you don’t need multiple cleansers – just the right one and the right routine!
