Summer Acne...SOS to the rescue!
Let’s talk about summer breaks; not break outs! But if you are suffering from summer acne, here’s how to treat it. In the past week every single human in the UK has got a pimple (probably!).
Why?
As temperatures climb, people sweat significantly more – the sweat sits on your face, mixes with atmospheric grime and pollution and creates the perfect environment for pores to clog and acne causing bacteria to grow: Break outs.
Because of the heat, we tend to touch our skin much more – blotting with a towel, wiping with cover make up or dusting on powder to mattify the shine. All the time introducing new bacteria and oils to your face. Excessive wiping also irritates the skin barrier leading to break outs. Another problem that goes hand in hand with heat is keeping cool. You have your car’s air conditioning blasting; you sit in a frigid coffee shop office or plane. Air conditioning removes moisture from the air, making it incredibly drying – it sucks moisture from your face which causes your skin to over produce oil / sebum to compensate for the dryness. Pores then clog which leads to a break out.
So the answer to all this is to: -
▪ Keep your hands off your face.
▪ Don’t pack make up on to attempt to cover any blemishes.
▪ Don’t run your air-conditioning on max and redirect any air vents away from your face.
▪ Cleanse the skin twice a day (maximum) with a fragrance free, non-aggressive, non-alcoholic cleanser such as SOS Cleanse and keep your make up to a minimum. Apply a daily lightweight moisturiser such as SOS H20 Day Cream with SPF 30 or SOS SPF 50 Sun Cream.
▪ Wear soft, loose fitting clothes – lightweight cotton is perfect.
▪ Seek shade and keep the air conditioning low and off your face.
▪ When you shower, use ultra-mild products and cool, tepid water.
▪ Allow your skin to air dry, try to avoid using a towel. Apply the cooling and calming SOS Serum to any problematic skin.
▪ Last but not least, keep your sleeping area well ventilated and cool.
